Anchor Text Best Practices

Anchor text is the visible, clickable text of a link. It is a small detail that carries a surprising amount of weight in how a page is understood and ranked.
Why this matters
Generic anchors like click here or read more tell a search engine nothing. Descriptive anchors that name the destination topic are far stronger, and they are also better for accessibility.
This matters most when you are applying internal linking basics across an existing blog, because the anchors you choose determine whether the new links actually help.
Avoid using the exact same anchor for many different destinations. When one phrase points at several pages, you send a confusing signal about which page should rank for it.
