Internal Linking Basics

A strong internal link structure is one of the most reliable ways to improve how search engines understand your blog. When pages connect to each other, crawlers can find every article and readers can move naturally between related topics.

Why this matters

The first thing to understand is anchor text best practices. The words you use inside a link tell search engines what the destination page is about, so vague phrases waste the opportunity entirely.

Once your anchors are in good shape, the next problem to solve is orphan pages. An orphan page has no inbound links at all, which means it is effectively invisible no matter how good the writing is.

Good internal linking is not a one time task. It is something you revisit every time you publish, because each new article changes the shape of the link graph.
